Job Description

Freeman Mathis and Gary, LLP is a rapidly growing, national specialty litigation firm seeking a Nurse Consultant to join our Walnut Creek office. The Nurse Consultant will be responsible for providing their medical knowledge to the practice of law by evaluating and analyzing medical documentation, case facts, and evidence to support our attorneys in our parachute trial team. The Nurse Consultant will need well-developed Microsoft Office skills, the ability to solve problems, strong organization skills, attention to detail, and the capability to communicates and collaborate well with all levels of the FMG team.

Essential Job Functions

• Assists attorneys in our parachute trial team in the preparation and defense of catastrophic tort cases
• Prepare medical chronologies, billing summaries, and timelines and correlate them to case details
• Review medical records and draft detailed memorandums outlining the medical treatment and determine if appropriate care and treatment was rendered
• Performs relevant medical research and literature searches of relevant to allegation quickly and efficiently to inform attorney decisions
• Collaborates with attorneys in preparation for depositions, mediation, and trial
• Coordinates with legal assistants, paralegals, attorneys, and other staff
• Maintain positive relationships with firm attorneys, co-counsel, clients, and vendors
• The Nurse Consultant is expected to meet established productivity and performance targets
• Additional duties and special projects as assigned

Education, Experience and Skills

• Must be a Registered Nurse with a current license and in good standing
• 5 or more years of clinical experience
• Experience in nurse consulting and legal nurse consulting preferred
• Must have strong organization, communication, and multitasking skills
• Must be detailed and have strong critical thinking skills
• Ability to work with other team members and clients
• Ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
• Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity
• Proficiency in an electronic file setting, comfortable with a paperless system
• Proficient in software programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Kofax PDF editor
• iManage experience a plus
