Conventional Mortgage Underwriter
Location: Painesville, OH (100% in-office, no exceptions)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Salary: $70,000 annually + potential annual company performance bonus

About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Conventional Mortgage Underwriter to join their mortgage department. This position is responsible for evaluating and verifying mortgage loan applications to determine the applicant’s ability to repay, ensuring all loans meet FNMA guidelines, credit union policies, and applicable regulations. The role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate underwriting decisions promptly and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
Communicate underwriting decisions to all involved parties in a timely manner upon receipt of the mortgage file and supporting documentation.
Ensure all closing documents meet compliance requirements, are complete with required signatures, endorsements, or notarizations, and that files are closed within four business days of receipt.
Maintain strict adherence to credit union, FNMA, and applicable government standards for the mortgage industry.
Provide friendly, accurate, and professional service to members and associates, responding to messages and correspondence within 24 hours.
Review and evaluate mortgage loan documents, including 1003 and 1008 forms, trust documentation, title reports, homeowner and condo master policies, and insurance documents.
Approve or deny loan applications or request additional information when necessary.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of documentation for the secondary market.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience as a manual mortgage undewriter
Strong working knowledge of FNMA guidelines.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and underwriting platforms such as Desktop Underwriter (DU).
Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and accuracy in typing/data entry.

This position is 100% on-site in Painesville, OH — remote work is not available.
