Reports to: Principal/Head of School Note: This is a long-term substitute position. Per diem compensation applies even when placed in long-term assignments. Responsibilities Implement district learning goals and objectives, in alignment with state frameworks, and identify access points for student portfolio development. Provide small-group instruction to students diagnosed with moderate to severe cognitive delays to support progress in the general curriculum. Write and implement goals and objectives consistent with student IEPs and provide timely progress reports. Provide accommodations for learning and testing; develop and implement curriculum as needed; collect and analyze student work for MCAS Alternative Assessment preparation. Collaborate with staff to respond to student needs for modification. Assist with transitions to adult living services as appropriate. Core Competencies Using the Rubric of Effective Teaching, the district identifies priority skills and abilities for BPS teachers: Accountability for Student Achievement: Sets ambitious learning goals, assesses understanding regularly, and adjusts instruction to reach goals. Communicating Content Knowledge: Demonstrates mastery and enthusiasm for content; connects content to real-world settings and standards. Equitable & Effective Instruction: Scaffolds and differentiates instruction to enable all students to engage in rigorous work. Cultural Proficiency: Respects diverse backgrounds and maintains a respectful learning environment. Parent/Family Engagement: Builds collaborative relationships with families to support student learning. Professional Reflection & Collaboration: Engages in reflective practice and collaborative learning. Qualifications - Required Education: Bachelor’s degree. Massachusetts Teaching License in the appropriate content area and Moderate Disabilities for the appropriate grade level. ESL License at the appropriate level or SEI Endorsement. Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified. Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching as outlined by BPS. Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment. Qualifications - Preferred Experience teaching in urban schools. Degree in Special Education. Language diversity is valued; candidates who are fluent in one of BPS’ official languages are encouraged to apply. Preferred certifications include Moderate Disabilities or ESL/SEI where applicable.
