Role Description/Summary
Opal Foods is accepting applications for the position of Pullet Farm Manager for our Iowa Falls, IA location.
The purpose of this role is to manage flock care and Pullet production operations at assigned location(s). The position will provide direction and supervision to pullet team members to achieve quality, safety and operational goals. This position will be responsible for day-to-day operations and overall pullet results for assigned locations.
Essential Job Functions – Must be able to perform these tasks with or without reasonable accommodations.
1. Lead site pullet operations in obtaining operational goals.
a. Follow Opal’s Vaccination and lighting programs
b. Daily barn walks
c. Once a month night walk
d. Alarm runs as needed
2. Monitor and coach pullet team members to make them successful in assigned tasks.
3. Oversee and provide guidance on maintenance activities at assigned location(s)
4. Responsible for timecard review and team member performance management for assigned location(s)
5. Implement and monitor safety program initiatives for assigned location(s)
a. Conduct weekly safety toolbox talks-minimum of 3.
b. Conduct weekly safety observation-minimum of 3.
6. Implement and monitor bio-security program initiatives for assigned location(s)
a. Conduct a minimum of 3 weekly Biosecurity talks.
7. Implement and monitor regulatory compliance initiatives related to assigned location(s)
8. Implement and monitor quality programs and bird health initiatives.
9. Constantly look for opportunities to make processes more efficient and in alignment with overall organizational goals.
10. Collect and review data with Director of Pullets to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
11. Manage and maintain all farm ordering, supplies, POs, and PO requests
12. Dependent upon location Manager may be responsible for overseeing the upkeep/monitoring of company wells, and chlorinators
13. Supervise daily operations of on-site feed mill.
a. Monitor daily safety, cleanliness, biosecurity of the mill and mill vehicles
b. Coordinate weekly safety meetings and observations for mill employees
Other Responsibilities
1. Other duties and projects as needed to support operational objectives.
2. Assist Director of Pullets in other areas of Pullet Operations as needed.
Required Qualifications – Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
1. 5 plus years’ progressive experience in egg/pullet production, live poultry, or related fields.
a. College degree in related field may be substituted for some of the required work experience.
2. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English.
4. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage team members including strong communication skills.
5. Must have mechanical understanding with ability to trouble shoot basic mechanics and ability to guide production maintenance technicians.
6. Must be a hands-on and interactive manager willing to teach/train team members.
Preferred Qualifications – Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
1. High School Diploma or equivalent highly preferred
2. Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, business, relevant courses of studies.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively speak, read, and writes in Spanish.
