Job Summary - Plant Manager (Water & Wastewater Treatment Facilities)

Schedule: Monday to Friday, with occasional on-call or emergency response duties as required.
Pay Range: $50,000 - $70,000 per year (based on experience and certification level)
Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Plant Manager to oversee and manage the daily operations of our Water and Wastewater Treatment Facility located in Hinckley, Illinois. This is a full-time, on-site leadership position responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the facility in accordance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in water and wastewater treatment processes, proven team leadership experience, and a strong commitment to operational excellence, safety, and environmental compliance. This role is essential in maintaining the reliability and quality of the community's water and wastewater systems while promoting continuous improvement in plant performance and staff development.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of daily operations for water and wastewater treatment processes, ensuring consistent compliance with EPA, IEPA, and other regulatory standards.
Lead, train, and supervise plant personnel to maintain safe, efficient, and effective operations.
Monitor and analyze plant performance metrics; implement process improvements to optimize operational efficiency and reduce downtime.
Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and infrastructure.
Maintain accurate logs, operational records, and compliance reports for internal and external audits.
Coordinate with municipal officials, contractors, and regulatory agencies regarding permits, inspections, and reporting.
Ensure adherence to safety policies and environmental regulations, promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Manage budgeting, inventory control, and procurement related to plant operations and maintenance activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
EPA Class B Water License and Class 2 Wastewater License required, or the ability to obtain both within one (1) year of employment.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in water and/or wastewater treatment facility operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role preferred.
In-depth understanding of water treatment systems, wastewater processes, and environmental compliance requirements.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
Proficient in recordkeeping, reporting, and computer-based plant management systems.
Must reside within 30 minutes of Hinckley, IL, or be willing to relocate.
