Job Description

Position Summary 

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Laborer to join our team at DEC. As a laborer, you will play a critical role in supporting construction crews with a variety of tasks related to underground utilities, site preparation, trenching, grading, and general earthwork. This position requires physical endurance, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work effectively as part of a crew

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform physical labor on construction sites including digging, lifting, carrying materials, and operating small tools.
• Assist with installation of underground utilities such as water, sewer, storm, gas, and electrical conduits.
• Support site grading, trenching, backfilling, compaction, and other earthwork activities.
• Operate compact construction equipment (e.g., plate compactors, jackhammers, cutoff saws) as required.
• Load and unload construction materials and tools.
• Follow directions from foremen, equipment operators, and other supervisors.
• Maintain a clean and safe job site by adhering to company and OSHA safety protocols.
• Flagging and traffic control as needed.
• Ensure job sites are kept clean and organized.
• Participate in safety meetings and training sessions, continually improving safety practices and skill sets.

Requirements 

• Must be in Local 563 Union.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience 
• Experience in commercial and industrial excavation.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to read and comprehend grade stakes and/or site plans.
• Safety awareness (OSHA, MMUTCD)
• Punctuality and dependability is required.
• Must posses a valid driver license and a clean driving record. 

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform strenuous physical tasks for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to work in varying weather conditions and uneven terrain
• Ability to bend, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods.
