Flatiron Research Fellow, Initiative for Computational Catalysis, at the Simons Foundation. The ICC develops and applies new computational techniques to fundamental open problems in catalysis. These techniques aim for quantitative predictions of catalytic chemical reactions with broader impacts in energy, agriculture, pharmaceutical, and transportation industries. For more information about the ICC research agenda, see:
ICC was launched on July 1, 2024, and is a ten-year effort within the Flatiron Institute. At its peak, ICC will comprise 25 research and software scientists at various career stages, as well as staff, visiting scientists, affiliated graduate students and interns. ICC maintains vigorous visitor and workshop programs and strong interactions with scientists from neighboring institutions.
Flatiron Research Fellows (FRFs) in ICC are postdoctoral-level researchers with backgrounds in theoretical chemistry, materials science, condensed matter physics, applied mathematics, or computer science. They report to Research Scientists, Data Scientists, or the Center Director/co-Director as appropriate and work on developing new concepts, algorithms, and codes to understand the electronic structure and dynamics of catalyzed chemical reactions. Fellows disseminate results through scientific publications, open-source software, conference participation, seminars, and mentorship of students where appropriate. There is also a potential Flatiron Research Fellow-Software position for postdoctoral-level scientists focused on software and coding efforts.
The initial appointments are generally for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year, contingent on performance. FRFs may be eligible for subsidized housing within walking distance of the ICC. The anticipated start date is early September 2026.
