ECO: Tree Planting in Chollas Creek Communities The planting of trees in the Chollas Creek watershed communities helps alleviate heat and improve stormwater management. The Chollas Creek watershed communities were designed with mostly impervious surfaces and lack trees and vegetation compared to other areas of the city. Planting trees is an easy action to take to combat climate change. Volunteers will gather at a meeting location in the community, participate in a planting demonstration, and then head to their assigned locations to plant trees. Trees will be at each location. Tools will be selected at the first meeting location. Volunteers can select the various part of the tree planting process that matches their capabilities. After planting, the team will leave the planting tools at their assigned home and return back to the meeting location to celebrate their tree planting success! Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Attire: Please wear long pants, closed-toeshoes, sunscreen, and a hat to keep cool. This opportunity takes place outdoors with little or no shade so volunteers should wear sun protection such as sunscreen and a hat. Bring: Bring water and any snacks needed. Physical Requirements: Lifting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and shoveling. Within each team, individuals can self-identify the best task to complete to match their physical abilities. Unfortunately, this opportunity is not able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations and the space where this project takes place is not wheelchair accessible. Weather: If there is inclement weather that would preclude planting activities, Groundwork will send out a cancelation notice. The event will occur if only light rain is expected. Photos: Pictures will be taken throughout the event. Please let those taking pictures know if you chose not to be in a photo. Note: Restroom is available at the initial meeting location, at a park. Restrooms will not be available at tree planting locations.
