About the job Correctional Deputy Probation Officer I In this position you will : Provide direct supervision, support and positive engagement to youth in the department's care and custody Engage and support youth in educational and recreational activities, living, dining and work assignment activities Write, document and enter incidents/reports Coordinate the transportation of youth to court and other external visits MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Possess a U.S. High School Diploma, GED or equivalent Must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment Must have a valid California Class C drivers license at the time of appointment, or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel. Qualified applicants must meet the minimum standards for California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) as stated in Government Code Sections 1029 and 1031. All candidates are required to take a treadmill test. This test entails moving on a treadmill while the speed and incline is increased, in stages, every 3 minutes. IDEAL CANDIDATE Experience working in a youth treatment program (i.e. group homes, residential facilities, juvenile correction, behavioral health rehabilitation facilities) or community-based therapeutic programs which included casework, individual and/or group counseling, juvenile rehabilitation, probation and parole, or social work for youth (12-21 years of age) Passionate about youth development and juvenile rehabilitation Thrives in a fast-paced, team oriented environment Communicates effectively orally and in writing Can hold themselves and others accountable Demonstrates ethical behavior Values and respects others Maximize team effectiveness Supportive and adapts quickly to change BACKGROUND QUALIFICATIONS Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness Felony convictions will be disqualifying Misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a thorough background investigation which may include a psychological, truth verification or other examination or test Must be found by a licensed physician to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental conditions which might adversely affect exercising the power of a peace officer WORKING CONDITIONS May be required to work a variety of shifts (some lasting seven days), which may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays May be required to work a schedule that includes twelve (12) hour shifts May be assigned to correctional institutions located in remote areas May be exposed to an environment of hostile, or aggressive behavior Vets Hired
