Brand & Design Guidelines Writer

Location: Remote but local to Culver City, CA

Duration: 12 months; potential to extend

Pay: Up to $65.50/hr, DOE (W2 and benefit options)

The Planet Group is looking for a Brand & Design Guidelines Writer to join our well-known Fortune 500 client on a 12-month contract. This role will be 40 hours a week and remote, but must be local to Culver City, CA.

Technical Writer (Brand & Design Guidelines) Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain internal and external-facing Production Design Guidelines that support content creation across platforms and services
• Work closely with the Content Design Production Team, creating design resources and product documentation for internal and external partners
• Collaborate with design leads, program managers, and other creatives to develop and maintain a common language for production design guidelines across all services
• Establish strategic direction and brand voice
• Write and edit design documentation and instructions
• Find new ways to convey technical information through the voice of the brand for audiences of varying levels of skill
• Leverage accessible and inclusive language to create clear and engaging content for a variety of formats, including copywriting for both internal documentation and external web resources in addition to scriptwriting for instructional video content
• Shape and harden how the voice of the brand manifests through each detail
• Quickly spot errors and inconsistencies through extremely detailed engagement
• Balance multiple projects simultaneously and enjoy working with team members in different roles to iterate on a piece to the point of perfection
• Continually identify and amalgamate key details cross-functionally
• Craft ways to deliver the details in ways that feel compelling, easily approachable, and larger than the sum of their parts

Brand & Design Guidelines Writer Qualifications:

• 7+ years relevant writing, creative, and/or brand experience
• Interest in new technologies and user-focused product experiences
• Able to quickly spot errors and inconsistencies
• Extremely precise and agile with language and delights in the nuance of each word and detail
• Extensive brand-writing experience, forging and evolving brand voice across new and existing brands
• Relevant or translatable experience creating and implementing design guidance, instructional materials, and/or brand style guides
• Able to translate technical details into colloquial, approachable instruction
• Expertise in applying storytelling structure to a diverse range of applications — from design guidelines to instructional scripts to presentations — ensuring clear, impactful flow and communication
• Adaptive to writing for audiences of varying design skill, from beginners to professionals
• Strategic and conceptual thinker that is skilled in helping forge strategic directions
• Strong organizational and project management skills
