STATEMENT OF JOB

The Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) will support the Stage Manager (SM) in all aspects of stage management for productions at Theater J. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of rehearsals and performances, helping to maintain order and consistency on and off stage. The ASM will work closely with the Stage Manager, actors, directors, designers, and production staff to facilitate communication and ensure that all production elements come together seamlessly for each performance.

DUTIES OF THE STAGE MANAGER

• Attend all rehearsals and performances.
• Set up and restore the rehearsal room and theater as necessary before and after every rehearsal.
• Serve as running crew.
• Provide and wear their own appropriate backstage clothing, including black clothing when required, and appropriate footwear.
• In conjunction with the Technical Coordinator, organize and maintain the properties, costumes, and set pieces for the run of the show. This includes but is not limited to: replacement of perishable running props such as food, collecting set dressing in one location after the final performance, and supporting backstage quick changes as needed.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the backstage area and the stage itself.
• Maintain paperwork, tracking all backstage activities for the production.
• Inform the Stage Manager of all repairs and maintenance issues.
• Take and distribute line notes to actors as instructed by the Stage Manager.
• From time to time, the Assistant Stage Manager may be requested to assist with changeovers as well as assist with the use of ladders and other equipment when asked by a Theater J staff member.

In addition to the duties listed above, Theater J expects the following of each employee: adheres to EDCJCC policies and procedures outlined in the EDCJCC Employee Handbook; works in a safe manner; performs duties as workload necessitates; maintains a positive and respectful attitude; communicates regularly with supervisor about department issues; demonstrates regular and consistent attendance and punctuality; participates in meetings, trainings, and events as needed or required; and completes other duties as assigned.
