SUMMARY
Bates Technical College is seeking a highly skilled and innovative instructor to build a supportive environment for adult learners as they train for a career as a Medical Assistants. Key duties include delivering classroom instruction, overseeing curricular development, and supervising clinical training. The role ensures compliance with the standards set by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) throughout the accreditation process. The successful candidate will collaborate with other faculty in the program and carry out functions related to the position described. The candidate will collaborate with advising and other student services to support student success best. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively as an active participant in our shared governance processes.
This position is eligible for a High Demand StipendAll Adjunct and Moonlighting Faculty will receive an additional $6.00 per contact hour. This agreement is in effect through June 30, 2025.
BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGE maintains a vacancy pool of qualified faculty interested in temporary teaching positions. Adjunct (part-time) faculty are responsible for preparing and providing instruction for students in the classroom. This part-time position may become available at any time and is typically filled on a quarterly basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & OTHER DUTIES
Ensure that curriculum and instructional design and delivery supports the mission, philosophy and objectives for the program and college.
Provide classroom and lab instruction utilizing a variety of teaching techniques to prepare students for employment in the industry.
Teach assigned AMA/CMA courses to students enrolled in program with primary responsibilities being classroom/online instruction, clinical competency, and workplace behaviors.
Create, implement, and modify curriculum as required to meet learning outcomes.
Maintain and manage classroom environment, equipment, tools, and supplies.
Create and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students.
Utilize online learning management system and incorporate multiple modalities into curriculum planning.
Maintain a safe environment through instruction, policy, and continuous evaluation of program equipment and laboratory space.
Provide career guidance and job placement assistance.
Assess and provide feedback on student competencies as established by industry standards.
Maintain accurate student progress records updated in a timely manner and assess and provide feedback on student learning.
Submit student grades in a timely manner.
Coordinate teaching and clinical education.
Must be knowledgeable about the MAERB Core Curriculum, knowledgeable about the program's evaluation of student learning and performance, and effective in ensuring appropriate and sufficient evaluation of student achievement in the practicum experience.
Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities and maintain friendly, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with fellow staff.
Be knowledgeable of and equitably enforce college policies, regulations, and operating procedures.
Update course curriculum as needed, including performance objectives, competencies, lesson plans and content in accordance with accreditation and college standards.
Monitor student outcomes with another program faculty and adjust course content to facilitate student success.
Manage the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school/campus academic and attendance policies.
Assist with establishing, implementing, and analyzing student learning data to make program and curricular improvements as needed.
Participate actively and collaboratively in student recruitment.
Ensure classroom management to maintain suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student conduct/problems and aid in solving them in accordance with college procedures.
Non-Essential/Other Functions
Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention, completion, and progression.
Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support access to employment opportunities for students, and maintain student job placement records.
Accountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications Be credentialed in good standing in medical assisting, by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or under International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Three years of clinical practice as an MA.
Administration experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting.
Experience with medical assistants.
Demonstrated intercultural competence and a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Must possess knowledge of all MAERB Core Curriculum; cognitive, psychomotor, and affective competencies.
Allowable Substitution
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.
Preferred Qualifications Associate degree in education or a related field from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
One year of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post-secondary level.
Experience with administration of and or teaching in a medical assistant program.
Experience in curriculum development and teaching medical assistant skills.
Experience working with a diverse student population.
