GENERAL SUMMARY
Functions as an Administrative Medical Assistant at Brown Surgical Associates. Reports to the BSA Nurse Manager. Primary responsibility is administrative and medical assistant support in the practice(s).
Works with physicians, clinical and secretarial staff to facilitate patient-centered care. Provides direct clinical support to one or more providers. Responsible for entering patient health information into the electronic health record, rooms patients, stocks exam rooms, sterilizes instruments and assists with minor office surgical procedures. Provides administrative support scheduling appointments and testing, obtaining referrals and authorizations for office visits, office procedures and outside studies. Demonstrates an understanding of the organization, its policies and procedures related practice operations. Displays professionalism while addressing patient issues. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Rooms patients and prepares patients for examination and treatment.
Reviews patient forms to ensure the forms are complete and assist patients with the forms if needed.
Obtains and properly documents the patient's vital signs, past medical, social, and surgical history, allergies, and medications in the electronic medical record.
Assists physicians during examinations and minor surgical procedures.
Practices proper handling, cleaning, and disposal of all contaminated instruments and/or materials in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
Performs proper labeling and handling of all surgical specimens, including delivery of specimens to the Pathology Lab.
Performs daily checklist review, ex. Date of expiration label, stocking exam rooms, prepares exam rooms for physicians, autoclave, cold sterile, etc.
Completes appropriate follow up work after the patient visit.
Makes Post Hospital Discharge Quality follow-up phone calls within 24-48 hours.
Provides patients and families with a welcoming professional demeanor. May assist with patient check-in process.
Prepares patient charts prior to the office visit verifying that all necessary paperwork and/or test results are available for the scheduled appointment. Ensures accuracy of all patient demographic information and pertinent data in the patient's medical record.
Schedules office appointments, office procedures, tests, imaging studies, and out-patient procedures.
Obtains referrals for office visits, authorizations for surgical procedures/tests, and diagnostic imaging.
Communicates with BSA practice secretaries details related to procedures and testing ordered for their patients.
Ensures continuity of physicians' schedules and assists with other duties to maintain practice efficiency.
Other duties clinical and administrative as assigned by the Nurse Manager or Practice Manager.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Medical Assistant Certification required.
Three years' experience in a medical-surgical office setting required.
Knowledge of sterile technique, OSHA guidelines, Universal Precautions, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
Medical terminology required.
Computer literate with working knowledge of Electronic Medical Record and computerized appointment scheduling systems.
Ability to work as a team member.
Well-organized with attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Empathetic with patient needs and concerns.
Exceptional interpersonal skills.
Adhere to HIPAA Guidelines.
Required to travel to Brown Surgical Associates offices.
Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services.
Ability to walk, sit, and stand for long periods of time, ability to lift to 20 pounds.
Upon successful completion training and testing for Bilingual Fluency Assessment for Clinicians, staff members may serve as qualified interpreters.
